Cavan General Hospital | Point Cloud Survey

We recently carried out a detailed point cloud survey in the undercroft of Cavan General Hospital to capture the existing M&E services as part of an ongoing upgrade project.

With no reliable ‘as‑built’ drawings available and an installation that dates back to the early 1980’s, gathering accurate, dependable information was essential. To do this, we used a combination of scanners to capture the data from site – a Leica RTC360 was used to handle the primary ground‑level scanning, delivering highly detailed coverage of the main areas. We then used a Leica BLK360 on a telescopic tripod to reach tighter spaces and complete the high‑level scans above the pipe rake. This allowed us to gather information that larger scanners simply couldn’t access.

Using both machines enabled us to collect comprehensive site information from what was a quite challenging environment. These scans can now be brought back to the office, where our modelling team created a detailed M&E Revit model which allows the consulting engineers to progress the design phase of the project.
